Dr. Vaughn Gay

Vaughn N. Gay, LPC is a licensed professional counselor, master addiction counselor, and anger management specialist in the state of Georgia.  Following his undergraduate matriculation at Kennesaw State University and the completion of his graduate studies at Georgia Southern University, Vaughn began his clinical training serving in the SW Atlanta community as a mental health practitioner for nearly five years, becoming aware of the epidemic of mental health disorders that currently plague low-income and underserved African-American communities.  He began to identify correlations between the quality of life associated with lower economic classes (lack of employment, poor access to healthy food, limited resources for primary care) and pervasive diagnoses associated with depression, anxiety, psychosis, and social maladjustment – understanding that African-Americans are predominantly more at-risk to present with diagnosable cognitive, emotional, or behavioral symptoms.

His current research interests include primary healthcare and mental health disparities of underrepresented populations, neuropsychology, and cognitive/emotional rehabilitation for individuals with traumatic brain injuries. Professionally, Vaughn remains an active member of the National Association of School Psychologists, the American Public Health Association, and the Georgia Association of Educators.

"If our response to being physically broken is to seek immediate treatment, why is the approach not the same when we're mentally or emotionally broken."
